"I loved this book. It reminded me of Nora Roberts' wedding series." — 5 star review for The Wedding Gift
Lucy Kevin is the "sweet" pen-name of New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Bella Andre (who writes the #1 bestselling series about The Sullivans). Lucy Kevin books are fun, flirty and romantic--without the steamy scenes.
BOOK DESCRIPTION After Julie Delgado’s restaurant closes, she temporarily takes over the catering position at the Rose Chalet, a full-service San Francisco wedding venue. She plans to dazzle the bride and groom so the Chalet’s owner will keep her around, but fate has other plans for her when the bride’s brother shows up for the first food tasting.
Andrew Kyle is not only the Cuisine Channel’s Edgy Eats host and chef, but his recent review of Julie’s restaurant was the final nail in its coffin. Once he meets Julie at the Rose Chalet, he’s certain she’s playing it safe. And he wants nothing more than to be the one to break her guarded passions loose.
But despite the undeniable sparks between Julie and Andrew–and the fact that he seems to believe in her when no one else does–can she afford to be taking risks with her cooking, with her career…or with her heart?

Julie Delgado's restaurant is killed by a bad review from celebrity chef Andrew Kyle. Now that she's lost everything and living with her Aunt, she's desperate for a temporary stint as a wedding caterer at The Rose Chalet to turn into a permanent gig. It's just poor Julie's luck that Andrew Kyle's brother is the groom and overseeing the food is Andrew's wedding gift to him. Andrew has his eye on Julie and Julie is nothing short of confused. She should hate the man, right? This book was adorable. Julie plays life safe to prevent rejection and hurt feelings. Andrew's job isn't just to woo her but to help her learn how to take risks and trust her instincts. I thought it was great seeing Julie in the process of learning how to trust herself and shed some of that insecurity. I thought the chemistry between the two was great and I thought they were well suited for each other.
The book isn't long (114 pages) but I felt that the author utilized the length well. I wasn't bored, I didn't feel like I was reading filler, it was well paced and it ended well. All in all, this was a great relaxing Sunday afternoon read that I would recommend.
*This is a clean romance, just kissing...no naughty bits.

The Wedding Gift Four Weddings and Fiasco Series Book 1 Four Weddings and a Fiasco eBook Lucy Kevin Bella Andre Reviews
If you just want something to lose yourself in for a few hours this will do. It's not great, but it's not horrible. It's somewhat formulaic and contrived, like many of these types of books are. I always chafe when authors create conflict by having characters not talk to each other since I believe communication is the bedrock of any real relationship and then somehow within just a few sentences, they've magically repaired the relationship and are headed to 'happily ever after'.
I really detest a book where you know what the outcome will be at the second chapter. This is what this book does. And then, we beat around the bush, chasing each other around for the remainder of the book. C’mon. I feel I completely wasted my time continuing to read this book while hoping some how, some way, it would get better - take a twist or turn somewhere along the way - but it didn’t. There is no way I would take a chance and read the others in this series. Sorry, but this book receives a “thumbs down” rating from me.
Synopsis without any spoilers...
Julie Delgado is trying to fill her aunt's place as the wedding catering chef at the Rose Chalet after her restaurant, Delgado's, closed after a bad review from a famous chef and food critic. Her first wedding to work on turns out to be non-other than the brother and soon to be sister-in-law of said critic, Andrew Kyle. Imagine her surprise when Andrew starts to pursue her.
Review...
First let me say that, yes, I thought this book was cute. I enjoyed the plot line very much. However, I just don't think that this book should have been a novella, or it should have seemed like it took place over a much longer period of time. The story line was too complicated to be fully realistic in such a short time-span. It is just not realistic that someone who treated your work so callously, even if it wasn't personal, would be seen as such a great guy so soon after. It is also unrealistic that Andrew went from "I knew she was different" in the beginning to "I love her" so quickly. I mean he knew nothing about her except her food.
I did not put Andrew's side in the synopsis because I don't feel that he was a true main character. He had no noticeable growth through the book. He began thinking that food had to be a certain way, always imaginative and different to ending the same way. I agree that when you go to a fine dining restaurant they should have a brilliant menu with food to match, but that doesn't mean that when you cook at home you can't just make food that people want to eat, comfort food. I think that it was also noticeable that his script was written by a woman and sounded like something a woman would want to hear, not necessarily what a man would say. I am more than OK with having the hero's dialogue attractive, sensitive and compelling for women, but I want to be able to imagine a man saying it.
Now, I definitely read romance novels for the happy endings and so that I don't have to think too hard while reading, an escape if you will. But, I do like to be able to at least say to myself, that could happen to some lucky guy or girl out there.
To end, I think given the price, free, and the length it was well done. I do think that the author has the talent to make this well done book into a real page turner that you don't want to put down if she were to lengthen it with some more detail. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I already own another from this series and love it. I have to say, I was a little disappointed while reading it, but I realized the limits and constraints on writing such a short novella. I do think that this book would be fantastic as a full length.
A Wedding Gift is a very well written piece about a chef named Julie Delgado that can't seem to catch a break. Her restaurant had to close after a bad review drove away customers, she gets a job at Rose Chalet, a very successful Wedding Planning Company and they only want her for temporary without the chance of staying on, and then, just to make matters worse, the very man that wrote her bad review walks in and wants to work closely with her on his sister's wedding meal.
Andrew Kyle didn't intend to close Julie's restaurant with his review but he feels every cook should cook with their heart, not just a recipe. So he was honest when he wrote his review that she did great making the food, but it was bland in the sense he could tell her heart wasn't in it.
These two get off to a rough start and have a few hiccups along the way, but they are very cute together and you are rooting for them from the start. I recommend this book and hope you pick it up.
B. Gillilan.
I really liked this author and was excited to read this book. It is a big disappointment! Well, what little bit there is. It would be a good outline for a story. There were just too many things left out. It needs more details.
Andrew came off as a pompous, know-it-jerk! He knew better and that was that. It didn't matter at all what Julie thought. And could she be any more of a door mat?! The only time she showed some back bone was when she defends him to his family. That's right, she sticks up for the guy who has done nothing but criticize and put her down!
I do not see any romance happening. It is bland and doesn't hold your interest. I am once again reminded of why I tend to avoid books with less than 200 pages. Because, as with this one and many others, you get what you paid for; half a story!
